Fuzión Dance Artists performing at Florida Dance Festival

The local troupe will perform at the international dance festival on June 23

Before the start of the their 10th anniversary season in August, the Fuzión Dance Artists are hitting the road up to Tampa to represent Sarasota to the rest of Florida and the world dance community at the Florida Dance Festival.

Entering its 36th year, the festival, operated by the Florida Dance Association, runs June 19 through 27 at the University of Southern Florida School of Theatre and Dance. The festival includes performances and classes throughout the week. Fuzión co-founder and artistic director Leymis Bolaños-Wilmott will serve as a faculty member this year along with other esteemed contemporary choreographers and dance professionals including Albena Arnaudova, Jennifer Archibald, Sheetal Gandhi, Douglas Gillespie, Maria Konrad, Jen Maecker, Jennifer Salk and Andee Scott. 

The Fuzión Dance Artists company will perform alongside Reach Dance (West Palm Beach) and Red Right Return (Orlando) in the popular festival series "Florida Dances." The series showcases the best dance organizations throughout the state of Florida. The performance is 8 p.m. June 23 on the campus' school of theatre and dance. Tickets are $22.

This year's winter art season marks the 10th year for the Fuzión Dance Artists. The premiere contemporary dance company in Sarasota, Fuzión's upcoming season is equal parts new works and nostalgic looks back. The programming, taking place from August to June 2016 at New College of Florida and the Jane B. Cook Theater, include such series titled "In the Round," "Close Up," "Voices of Fuzión," "Retrospect" and "Evolving/Revolving." In addition, this will be Fuzión's first season of entirely contemporary programming.
