At the sound of an air horn, runners took off for a one-mile fun run down the shores of Siesta Key Beach Tuesday evening. Waiting at the finish line for participants were ribbons and ice pops to cool runners down.
Weekly Summer Beach Runs are hosted for children and families looking for inexpensive summer activities on Siesta Key. The next scheduled race is Tuesday, June 30 with registration at 5:30 p.m., at the Siesta Key Beach pavilion.

Gulf Gate Elementary is one of more than 15 sites for the All Faiths Food Bank summer food assistance program to benefit children and families during the break from school. Gulf Gate Elementary Principal Robin Majac is just one of the friendly faces residents will see along withvbolunteers as they pick up their food items.

On Monday, June 22 Majac brought along her granddaughter, Arianna Thomas, to teach the lesson of giving back.

"Community service is important," Majac says. "I think it's really important to have them help out at a young age and see what it is like to give back."
