Sarasota Crew wins regional crown

The Sarasota Crew scored a combined 1070 points to win the overall points trophy at the USRowing Southeast Youth Championships May 9 and May 10, at Lake Lanier, in Gainesville, Ga.

The Sarasota Crew scored a combined 1070 points to win the overall points trophy at the USRowing Southeast Youth Championships May 9 and May 10, at Lake Lanier, in Gainesville, Ga. 

The Crew won both the women’s and men’s point totals as well, finishing ahead of Miami Rowing and Watersports Center, Inc. 

The Crew, which had 22 entries in the field, won six gold medals, seven silver medals and two bronze medals. 

Gold medalists include: 

  • Women’s Lightweight 8+
  • Men’s 4+
  • Women’s 8+
  • Men’s 8+
  • Men’s U17 1x
  • Men’s U17 4x
  • Silver medalists include:
  • Men’s Lightweight 2x 
  • Men’s Lightweight 8+
  • Women’s U17 8+
  • Women’s U17 1x
  • Women’s U17 4x
  • Men’s 2nd 4+
  • Women’s 2nd 8+
  • Bronze medalists include: 
  • Women’s 4+ 
  • Men’s U17 8+

The top three finishers in most events qualified for the USRowing National Youth Rowing Championships June 12 trough June 14, at Nathan Benderson Park. The Crew qualified seven boats for nationals. 

The Sarasota Scullers also qualified its men’s and women’s quads, which finished third, for nationals.
