Fifth-grade Tara Elementary School teacher Marcy Davidson is retiring after 23 years at Tara: as long as the school has been open.
She is one of the original teachers that was hired when Tara opened. Friends, family and colleagues gathered to commemorate her work at the Tara Preserve Community Center Friday, May 15.
"There is so much wealth of knowledge in this room," Marcy Davidson said. "It's good to be surrounded by all of this."
Davidson has taught for 35 years. Before teaching first, second and fifth grades at Tara, she worked at Florine J. Abel and Frances Wakeland elementary schools.
"Fifth and second are my favorite grades," she said. "The kids get you. You can joke with them, teach them life lessons and get them read to be an adult."
Davidson will have a brick with her name installed into the walkway of the parent garden, and she was also "knighted"— she was given an award with a knight statute on it, a play on the school's mascot.
