An unlikely friendship struck up April 23 between preschoolers and adults.

Selby Preschool students, ages 3 to 6, sang songs and played musical instruments while donning homemade peacock-inspired masks at the annual Ladies Tea, held at the home of Rick and Kelly Askerud.

The event, themed “Proud as a Peacock,” celebrated the programs and services provided to children, teens and adults on the 32-acre campus of Community Haven.

Community members brought gift baskets and gift cards from local businesses. The ladies also enjoyed treats made at Community Haven’s Heavenly Haven Bakery. The fundraiser benefited Selby Preschool. Donors and friends of the Haven matched every dollar raised.

Matched funds will go toward the new Haven Industries building slated for groundbreaking in December. The new building will enable an additional 80 individuals to receive needed training and employment and will also feature a 7,500-square-foot employment center.
