Mr. Doyle and his wife, Eleanor, were high school sweethearts in their hometown of Waterford, N.Y., and were married for 52 years.

Mr. Doyle graduated from Le Moyne College, majoring in history and political science. He spent his entire 39-year career with the New York State Department of Civil Service, retiring as director of the Municipal Service Division.

Possessing modest mechanical skills, Mr. Doyle referred to himself as a born administrator and applied those talents in many ways, including his years of service to Clifton Park Soccer Club teams. He was an avid reader, especially of World War II historical accounts and military science fiction. He enjoyed traveling, visiting national parks and being at sea.

Mr. Doyle is survived by his wife, Eleanor Richardson Doyle; daughter, Megan Doyle, of Bedford, Mass.; son, Daniel Richardson Doyle, of Delmar, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for June.
