ODA celebrates athletic achievements; Joint rowing facility opens; Big Summer golf season tees off

ODA celebrates athletic achievements 

The Out-of-Door Academy held its Athletic Awards Ceremony May 9. 

Austin Hoppe and M’Balia Bangoura were named the Thunder’s male and female athletes of the year, respectively. 

ODA presented MVP and coach awards for each of its varsity sports.

Joint rowing facility opens 

The Sarasota Scullers Youth Rowing Club, the Sarasota County Rowing Club and the Sarasota Adaptive Rowing Program, along with Sarasota County officials, celebrated the grand opening of Blackburn Point Park April 29. 

The multi-generational rowing facility, situated along the Sarasota Intercoastal Waterway, will serve as the training ground for rowers ages 10 to 82. 

 

Big Summer golf season tees off

Big Summer Golf Card officially welcomed the start of the summer season May 1 with the addition of exclusive Ritz-Carlton Club play dates. 

Traditionally closed on Mondays, the club is offering BSGC holders the opportunity to play the 18-hole course at special pricing of $75 plus tax. All players must be BSGC holders, and advanced reservations are required. 

Play dates include May 25 and June 1 with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun scheduled for both days. Additional dates will be announced monthly throughout the summer.

The BSGC offers preferred pricing on green fees at more than 55 courses along Florida’s Gulf Coast as well as south and central Florida from May to October. Cardholders also are eligible to participate in the Big Money Tour, which includes cash and prizes totaling $5,000 per month at 23 participating courses.

Riverview to hold youth hoops camp

Riverview High will hold its annual youth basketball camp June 1 through 4.

The camp, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon, is open to boys and girls entering grades three through seven. 

Cost is $90 per player.
