Film Series: "Margot Fonteyn"

The Sarasota Ballet begins its season of film and lecture series with a screening of a documentary on the life and career of Dame Margot Fonteyn, one of the most accomplished ballerinas of the 20th century. A lecture will follow.

“The Actor’s Nightmare & The Real Inspector Hound”

The second-year FSU/Asolo Rep students open their season with a double feature of absurdist theater comedy. Enjoy Christopher Durang’s “The Actor’s Nightmare” followed by Tom Stoppard’s “The Real Inspector Hound,” which both examine the hilarious circumstances of the theater and murder mysteries.

The final Underground of 2015 continues the event’s tradition of featuring the best local and regional music and art, including blues-rock band Amythyst Kiah & Her Chest of Glass, Gainesville folk collective Wax Wings and singer/songwriters Justin Layman and Sara Nelms. Rob Tarbell: Smoke Screens

Rob Tarbell creates his unique smoke screen works and prints by burning credit cards, photos and 35 millimeter slides. Tarbell’s unique process captures the smoke from the burning materials to create a singular images and portraits. Runs through Dec. 4.

Alex Ketley, The Foundry: Deep South

Dancer and choreographer Alex Ketley returns to Sarasota for the world premiere of “Deep South.” After traveling throughout the rural regions of the South, Ketley used interviews with strangers about their relationship to dance to create this live dance installation and documentary video that examines what dance means to the American South.

The Sarasota Medieval Fair returns this year for three weekends of costumed celebration, jousting and courtly merriment. Running each weekend through Nov. 22, the theme to this year’s fair is the real-life battle between England and Scotland during the war in 1314.
