Hospital Board elects officers

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System’s governing body elected former AT&T project manager Gregory Carter as its chairman Monday.

As Sarasota Memorial Hospital eyes a new location in south Sarasota County, the governing body overseeing the hospital system has elected a chairman from its southern district.

Sarasota County Public Hospital Board Chairman Gregory Carter won his most recent election for the governing body by 4,000 votes.

The Sarasota County Public Hospital Board voted Monday to appoint Gregory Carter, a former project manager for AT&T, as chairman. Carter succeeds former Chairwoman Marguerite Malone, who will now serve as second vice chairwoman.

The board as appointed Vice Chairwoman Alex Miller, Treasurer Joseph DeVirgilio Jr., Secretary Robert Strasser, Assistant Secretary James Meister and Assistant Treasurer Darryl Henry.

The Hospital District this month also closed on a land swap with Mattamy Homes that gives Sarasota Memorial roughly 30 acres at the southeast corner U.S. 41 and West Villages Parkway in North Port, according to deeds filed Friday with the Sarasota County Clerk of the Court.
