A very sod story: A resident contacted the Sheriff’s Office because a white pickup truck and trailer was pulled up on his yard, which he has just paid $2,000 to have new sod laid. The truck and trailer belonged to Florida Power & Light, and the work crew was running cable. The supervisor of the crew told the deputy that there was no other way to access the cable except in the resident’s yard. At the time, no damage had been sustained to the sod; the supervisor advised that the homeowner could call FPL and request restoration. The resident was upset because he was trying to sell the property.

Fair Oaks

Car-hopping fire: A fire at the home of a woman who buys wrecked vehicles to sell the parts. Two vehicles, neither of which were in running order, were parked next to each other beside her home. The vehicles, which had been sitting on her property for some time, both had batteries. A lieutenant on the night shift noticed one of the vehicles was on fire. He called the fire department, and the fire had spread to three other vehicles and a trailer when the department arrived. The first vehicle caught fire due to an electrical short. None of the vehicles were insured and will be totally lost.
