OCT. 19

PROPELLOR PROBLEM

2:32 p.m. — Off the Key

Assist Other Agency: Police marine patrol responded with the U.S. Coast Guard to a call about a 17-foot boat in distress because the motor’s propeller wasn’t working. Police stood by as the propeller was cleared and the boat was operable again.

CALLING FROM HER CELL PHONE

4:05 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD

Pubic Service: A man reported he keeps getting voicemails from a woman named Tracy from a Texas penitentiary asking him to accept her collect calls. The calls are coming from an 800 number, and police were unable to get a live person to explain what the calls are about.

 

OCT. 21

MAILBOX MAYHEM

11:54 a.m. — 3800 block of GMD

Vandalism: A man reported that someone tampered with his mailbox by placing a piece of metal in the keyhole.

TOOL THEFT

12:49 p.m. — 6400 block of GMD

Larceny: A construction manager reported the theft of more than $1,200 worth of tools from a construction site.

RESTROOM REEFER

12:55 p.m. — 4000 block of GMD

Narcotics Violation: A convenience store clerk found a plastic bag of marijuana in the women’s bathroom. It was turned over to police for disposal.

 

OCT. 23

CAN'T PARK HERE

11:57 p.m. — 4000 block of GMD

Suspicious Circumstance: A man sleeping in his car in a vacant lot told police he was homeless and needed a place to park for the night. Police told him he couldn’t stay on the island and he left.

 

OCT. 24

DOCK NOISE

12:11 a.m. — Intersection of Linley Street and Bayside Drive

Noise Disturbance: Police responded to a report of loud noise coming from the town dock and warned a man that he and his friends were being too loud.

CRANK UP THE MUSIC

12:51 a.m. — Longboat Pass Bridge

Disturbance: A police officer activated his squad car’s overhead emergency lights on the bridge and yelled at a boat captain to turn down his music. The captain complied by cranking up the music and backing out of a sandbar, almost striking the bridge as it headed north in Sarasota Bay.

NO SMOKING

5:03 p.m. — 4700 block of GMD

Suspicious Person: An on-duty security guard was seen smoking marijuana while on the third floor of the construction site. The security guard denied smoking marijuana, but the construction site manager told police he was being relieved of his duty.

DOG DISPUTE

7:40 p.m. — 700 block of St. Judes Drive North

Disturbance: Neighbors were yelling in the street over how loud a woman’s dog was barking in her side yard. Police attempted to calm the neighbor down and told him to call animal control if he believes the dog is aggressive or a threat to the neighborhood. He responded by saying, “I’ll just shoot the dog next time it gets out.”

 

OCT. 25

BEACH SOLICITORS

2:09 p.m. — Intersection of North Shore Road and Joy Street

Disturbance: Police responded to a report of a couple asking for money on the beach. They denied they were asking for money and accepted a ride to the Sarasota Salvation Army.

CART CRASH

3:39 p.m. — 5200 block of GMD

Rescue: A woman ran her golf cart in the back wall of the shed she stores it in, pinning herself between the shed wall and the cart. She was transported to the hospital for medical attention.

 

OCT. 26

POWER PROBLEMS

2:19 a.m. — 6800 block of GMD

Fire: An overhead electrical switch caught on fire and the power company was called to monitor the switch until it was replaced.
