Fraud: A man told police he signed up for a secret shopper website a year ago and started receiving several counterfeit checks he is supposed to cash and then forward the funds to other people. He turned over evidence to police showing several counterfeit checks totaling thousands of dollars. He was advised not to cash any checks. The checks were placed into evidence for a police investigation.
TURTLE TROUBLE
8:50 a.m. — 200 block of North Shore Road
Animal: A sea turtle watch volunteer informed police that someone tampered with a sea turtle nest that was tagged the previous day by removing some of the posts. The sea turtle nest was not disturbed.
PHONE PRAYERS
11:44 a.m. — 4300 block of Chatham Drive
Lost Property: A woman told police she turned her cellphone off in church so she wouldn’t disturb the Mass and couldn’t find the phone when she returned home.
STOP SOLICITING
12:21 p.m. — 5900 block of Emerald Harbor Drive
Soliciting: Police informed two men hanging door hangers on front doors that a Longboat Key ordinance prohibits such activity Key-wide. They received warnings for violating the ordinance.
FISHY FISHERMEN
11:07 p.m. — Off the Key
Fishing: Police warned five fishermen they are not allowed to fish on the bridge span of the Longboat Pass Bridge. Five minutes later, police returned and found one man still fishing there. He was issued a citation for fishing from a state bridge and given a verbal warning for fishing without a fishing license. Two other fishermen were issued citations an hour later for fishing on the bridge span again.
FOLLOW THE BEACH PATH
7:08 p.m. — 6600 block of Gulfside Road
Suspicious Person: Police received a call about three suspicious men walking between houses toward the beach. Police found the men and they said they were picking up coconuts between the houses. They were given warnings to stay off private property and use the public beach accesses.
VANISHING STONE
12:12 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD
Lost Property: A woman told police she lost a $19,000 2.67-karat stone from her ring sometime over the past 24 hours. She retraced her steps when she ran errands and couldn’t find it.
BRACELET BUST
10:14 a.m. — 1000 block of GMD
Larceny: A woman told police she believes some contractors that have access to her home stole a $2,000 bracelet from her top middle dresser drawer. She told police the bracelet was broken and lying on top of a napkin inside the drawer. Police began investigating the workers installing new windows and hurricane shutters on her home.
TRUCK HAUL
4:24 p.m. — 500 block of Cutter Lane
Larceny: A woman told police someone stole a Swiss Army suitcase, clothing, bottles of wine, bottles of alcohol and soda valued at $799 from her unlocked truck.
