AUG. 24 

OUT OF TOUCH
8 a.m. —500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
Public Service: A woman sitting on a bench in front of a grocery store told police her purse was stolen the night before, when she arrived on the Key to visit her father. After arriving, she discovered he had moved off the island three years ago. She declined a ride to the mainland.

YARD CRASHERS
11:18 p.m. —700 block of Longboat Court
Property Damage: A woman told police she allowed a tree trimming company to use her yard to gain access to her neighbor’s tree while she was on vacation. When she returned home, she found tire marks and holes all over her yard. She wanted a report on file because the company hasn’t sent a crew to repair her yard.

FIRE TRUCK HAZARD
12:11 p.m. —700 block of St. Judes Drive North
Property Damage: A firefighter/paramedic reported that when he pulled the fire truck to the side of the road to let another car pass on the narrow road, the weight of the truck caused a water meter box that was recessed in the ground to crack. Public Works employees replaced the $100 box.

AUG. 25

SPOTLIGHT STEALERS
4:02 a.m. —500 block of Ranger Lane
Suspicious Person: A man told police he saw his home’s motion sensor detector’s rear spotlights come on and two men walking westbound on his seawall. Police couldn’t locate the men. It appears they attempted to steal a boat, and police picked up four fingerprints for processing.

TIME TO BAIL
1:30 p.m. —3700 block of GMD
Fraud: A woman reported a man calling her, pretending to be her grandson asking for bail money. She got angry and hung up on him. Police told her she did the right thing.

OPEN MEETING?
11:04 p.m. —500 block of Bay Isles Road
Security Check: Police found the back hallway door to Longboat Key Town Hall unlocked and locked it.

AUG. 27

MOVE ALONG
2:46 p.m. —500 block of Bay Isles Road
Suspicious Person: A woman reported a suspicious person walking aimlessly on Bay Isles Road. A man dressed in white clothing told police he is homeless and couldn’t find a place to stay in Sarasota. Police told him camping on Longboat Key is illegal and dropped him off on Anna Maria Island at his request.

AUG. 28

LIGHT UP THE GULF
9:02 p.m. — 4600 block of GMD
Fire: Police responded to a report of a fire 300 yards away in the Gulf. A property manager told police a couple lit two Chinese paper lanterns and let them drift into the Gulf until the water extinguished them. No further action was taken.

AUG. 30

BLOCKING BUSINESS
2:17 p.m. —5300 block of GMD
Suspicious Vehicle: A restaurant manager reported that a disabled black Jeep that was missing a wheel was blocking parking spaces near his restaurant. He arranged to have the Jeep towed.
