Electrify the Island
Runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway. Explore electric vehicles and other eco-friendly technologies in the Sarasota-based kickoff of National Drive Electric Week. Electrify the Island will showcase a plug-in electric vehicle expo, ride-and-drive sessions for visitors to test vehicles, vendors focused on sustainability and energy efficiency and educational booths. Rockin' Wings Festival
Runs from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Payne Park, 2050 Adams Lane. The first ever Rockin' Wings Festival will feature wings from around Sarasota. Each participating restaurant will enter wings into a blind taste test. For entertainment there will be tribute bands, a motorcycle thrill show and play area for children. Back to School Open House
Runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota, 3975 Fruitville Road. Parents looking for an alternative to traditional religious school education are invited to attend the church's Back To School Kick-Off Party. The event is open to all and provides an opportunity for parents to learn about the curriculum of the religious education program. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served and a giant slip-n-slide will be available for kids. Admission is free. Call 371-4974.

Dr. Nik: A Selekt Retrospektive
Starts at 7 p.m. at Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court. Meet the man behind the decorated bicycles on display throughout town. Dr. Nik will have his many bicycles will be on display, as well as his hand-crafted puppets and work from his Tribal Mask Series, his Relative Musician Series and his Ringling Museum series.
