The Sarasota Police Department placed its sentiments along with wreaths around the World Trade Center memorial in front of the Downtown Sarasota headquarters.
This year SPD kept the ceremony private to law enforcement and began just after dawn. Members of the SPD Honor Guard presented the flag and raised it to half staff. Wreaths of red, white and blue flowers were placed alongside the memorial that includes a beam from the World Trade Center. Deputy Chief of Police Patrick Robinson was present for the ceremony.
“The risks faced by public safety personnel on 9/11 were immense, as are the risks that these individuals face every day they don their uniforms. There are ever-present threats to our communities that must be handled by these brave first responders, Police, Sheriff's, Fire Fighters, EMS, and our Military personnel,” Robinson said. “It is equally as important to remember 9/11 for showing us what our communities are capable when we come together and work toward a common goal.”
