The town of Longboat Key appreciates recent donations to Bayfront Park.
Commissioners Lynn Larson and Irwin Pastor presented Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key President Armando Linde with a letter of appreciation Thursday at the weekly Kiwanis breakfast meeting for the $6,135 check the club gave the town last week to help offset the cost of a $250,000 playground for Bayfront Park.
"It's much appreciated and we appreciate all that your organization does," Pastor said.
In December, $3.11 million in renovations begin at Bayfront Park.
It’s the second check the town has received for a revamped Bayfront Park project this year.
In May, the Longboat Key Garden Club gave the town a $6,135 check that will be used to plant shade trees in the future children’s playground area.
Besides a new shaded children’s playground, the park will include pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a bocce ball open space area. Other offerings include a dog park, a kayak launch and paddle sports loading area and walking trails among mangroves and a preserved rain garden area.
