Local pairs skaters win international gold

Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex senior pairs figure skaters Tarah Kayne and Daniel O’Shea won their first international competition at the 2015 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic. 

Kayne and O’Shea, who won a bronze medal last year, performed their free skate to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Music of the Night” and their short program to “Espana Cani.” 

Kayne and O’Shea will return to the ice Oct. 23 through Oct. 25 to represent the United States at Skate America, in Milwaukee, Wisc. The two also will compete at the Rostelecom Cup Nov. 20 through Nov. 22, in Moscow, Russia. 

Ellenton’s senior pairs team of Gretchen Donolan and Nathan Bartholomay placed fifth. Donolan and Bartholomay will now move on to compete at Ondrey Nepela Trophy Oct. 1 through Oct. 3, in Bratislava, Slovakia. The two also will represent the United States at Skate America. 

Juniors pairs Joy Weinberg and Maximiliano Fernandez won a silver medal at the Junior Grand Prix’s 2015 USA Colorado Springs Figure Skating Competition Sept. 2 through Sept. 6. Junior pairs teammates Sarah Rose and Joseph Goodpastor placed seventh.

Weinberg and Fernandez recently flew to Poland to compete in the Junior Grand Prix Poland, which began Sept. 23 and runs through Sept. 27.
