Have you ever wondered how your backyard landscape could affect the environment?

If grass is cut too closely to a pond, the fertilizer on the grass can cause algae buildup in community ponds.

University of Florida researcher Emily Ott will provide insight on landscape best practices, so residents can avoid harming their ponds and other community resources.

Residents can also voice concerns on landscape and other environmental issues in their neighborhoods at the Protect Our Ponds Science Cafe, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Lakewood Ranch Town Hall.

UF researchers have also been studying East County ponds since 2008. They will tonight divulge information from those studies, too.

RSVP is required. Call 907-0202 for availability.
