Thanks to recent renovations, Cedars Tennis Resort will look a little bit different for the snowbirds.

In May, the resort’s fitness center received new flooring and cardio equipment.

Currently, the café is receiving new ceramic tile floors, new paint, new decorations and an updated security system. The pool is being resurfaced and updated with new tile, lighting and walls. These ongoing renovations are scheduled to be completed Oct. 1.

“Some of this stuff hadn’t been updated in a while,” Jana Troyer, marketing manager for Cedars’ property manager, RVA, said. “We wanted to give them a face-lift. We wanted to have everything fresh and new for when our winter residents come back.”

In addition to the physical changes, Cedars welcomed a new tennis director, Dave Sherwood, who helped the center obtain U.S. Tennis Association membership. Sherwood is also organizing new specialty clinics, including an upcoming Halloween-based one.

“There’s just some really fun tennis stuff going on,” Troyer said. “Dave is making this an especially exciting tennis community to be a part of.”

Cedars is currently in the midst of a membership drive, and Troyer hopes the renovations will draw people. This year, the resort is offering new custom membership levels to meet members’ needs.

“We wanted to offer things that fit members,” Troyer said. “We’re just trying to make the changes to benefit our members. We’re now one of the only tennis clubs on the island, and we want it to be the best and take advantage of giving our members the best possible experience.”
