Turning Points ‘Walk A Mile in Their Shoes’

What: The event raises money for homeless children and includes a sand blast competition, activities, music, a post-walk party and more. Cost is $20 for adults; $10 for students and children; $45 for families; and free for children younger than 5. Register at turningpointswalk.org.

When: Registration begins at 4 p.m.; the one-mile family fun walk is at 5:30 p.m.; and the post-party is at 6 p.m.

Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce Hob Nob Island Style — Takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Longboat Key Club’s Spike ’n Tees, 361 Longboat Club Road. Mingle with local elected officials, business members and town department heads and enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Dinner and a Movie — Takes place at 6:30 p.m. at Longboat Key Club Islandside Driving Range, Longboat Club Road. The second combined fundraiser for the Longboat Key Garden Club and the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key will feature dinner, a horseshoe-throwing contest and the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Guests will receive a golf cart to use for this drive-in movie experience. Proceeds will benefit the clubs’ grant and scholarship programs. Cost is $65; VIP tickets for $75.  Call 387-1909.
