Sarasota Military Academy senior Kimia Spikes signed a national letter-of-intent April 13 to row for Jacksonville University, which has won the Metro Athletic Conference Championship each of the past two years.

Spikes, who plans to major in business, has spent the past four years rowing for the Sarasota Scullers where she was a junior team captain and competed in the USRowing Southeast Youth Regionals.

Last summer, Spikes was the head counselor for the first diversity summer rowing camp, at Nathan Benderson Park. During the camp, Spikes helped provide a rowing experience to the youth in Sarasota County. She also started a clothing drive aimed at providing proper clothing and essentials for athletic training.

Spikes will compete in the Florida State Sculling Championships April 16 and April 17, at Nathan Benderson Park.
