A couple of ding dongs
3700 block of 162nd Avenue East
Suspicious incidents: A deputy responded to a call about suspicious behavior in a neighborhood. When he arrived, he observed and approached two juveniles dressed in dark clothes. When asked, they said they didn’t live in the neighborhood. They told the deputy they were bored and decided to play “ding dong ditch,” a classic mischievous game in which they would ring random doorbells and then run away so as not to get caught. One of them had a small knife in his possession. The deputy contacted both boys’ parents, and one boy’s father came to pick them both up as one of them was spending the night at the other’s home. The deputy gave the knife to the father.
Stupid people beware
2800 block of University Parkway
Information: A employee of a business called the Sheriff’s Office after an altercation with a customer. She helped a different customer at the counter and when finished, asked the male customer in question if she could now help him. The man told her he wasn’t ready yet. He then came up to the counter, ordered cigarettes and Lotto tickets, and said “I’m not stupid.” The employee asked him what he meant, and the man then told her she was stupid, he did not like stupid people and he had guns at home to take care of stupid people. Then, he dropped his Lotto tickets and demanded that the employee pick them up. Upon reviewing the security footage, the deputy recognized the man as a “cantankerous, transient chap” known to live out of a car. He was not located, and the Sheriff’s Office encouraged the business to call if he appears again.
Nailing down vandals
7300 block of Connecticut Avenue
Criminal mischief: A county parks employee reported someone had painted graffiti in the park bathroom. The man had already painted over the graffiti, so there were no photos of the vandalism. He was not sure how much it cost to have it painted over. He suggested that he could put a box of nails in the parking lot to stop the vandalism. The deputy told him that such an act would also be considered vandalism, and the manager said no one would see him do it. The deputy issued him a case number.
