THURSDAY, April 28

The Sarasota Christian baseball team will begin what it hopes will be a deep tournament run when it plays host to St. Petersburg’s Keswick Christian in a Class 2A-Region 3 semifinal game at 7 p.m. The district champion Blazers need just two more wins to reach the state semifinals.

Can the Sarasota Crew make it a clean sweep? After capturing a sculling state championship two weeks ago, the Crew hopes to add another state championship to their resume during the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association Sweep Championships. More than 1,800 athletes will be in attendance when racing commences at 8 a.m.

SATURDAY, April 30

A spot at the state meet will be on the line when Riverview and Sarasota’s best step on the track for the Class 4A-Region 2 meet April 30, in Kissimmee. Fourteen district champions, including two-event champions Adam Bradtmueller, Brady Miller and Xakari Hawkins of Sarasota and Aliyah Cunningham of Riverview, will try to bring regional championships back to their hometown.

The Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce will hit The Founders Club green for its annual golf tournament. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon. After their round of 18, participants will be able to compare scorecards over dinner and drinks.
