The online technology publication Tech Insider named Gulf Gate Library the most beautiful library in Florida in its list of the most beautiful libraries in the country.
The library's most recent recognition joins previous accolades, including a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver award from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2015.
Gulf Gate Library reopened January 2015 at 7112 Curtiss Ave. after undergoing renovations. Sarasota County Library staff consulted the community prior to the renovations and incorporated the public’s thoughts in the architect’s plans.
Gulf Gate Library Manager Christine Aston says the building is a product of community input and architectural vision.
“The entire county really supports the library system, but this community in particular has a real connection to ... this particular library,” said Aston. “It really is a community meeting place.”
