Get the band back together for the 3rd annual Rock for a Cause Battle of the Bands competition.

The event which benefits local music programs is accepting submissions for the event that is scheduled to rock Main Street and Orange Avenue in Downtown Sarasota on Nov. 12.

Interested bands must submit two of their songs either in an audio or video file to the Rock for a Cause website by Sept. 18. Voting will be open to the public from Sept. 19 to Oct. 7 to select the top six bands. Those bands will be announced Oct.7 to perform for the event the following month.

Local musicians from Manatee and Sarasota counties are encouraged to participate for a chance to win $1,500. The competition also helps collect funds to send students of the Del Couch Music Education Foundation to the Berklee College of Music summer programs.

Last year Lakewood Ranch High School student and performer Paige Merriman was declared the winner. The 15-year-old singer and songwriter represented LRHS for the competition.
