Back-to-School Backpack Brigade
Runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota 3100 Fruitville Road. The Tiny Hands Foundation, along with the assistance of hundreds of volunteers, will fill 1,500 backpacks with school supplies to be provided to community children in need. 2016 CutAThon
Runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at One Sarasota Tower, 2 N. Tamiami Trail, Suite 804. Cutting Loose Salon will bring its stylists out of the salon for a day to fundraise and cut hair to benefit Wigs for Kids. A hair donation is welcome but not required to participate. Democratic Club Sunset Cruise
Starts at 6:30 p.m. at Marina Jack Plaza. Join the Democratic Club of Sarasota for a cruise around Sarasota Bay aboard Le Barge Tropical Cruises leaving from Bayfront Drive between Marina Jack and O’Leary’s. Runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fogartyvilly Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court. Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections, Kathy Dent will give an overview of the elections process and answer questions in time for the Aug. 30 primaries. Admission is free. Runs from 4 to 9 p.m. at 525 Kumquat Court. WSLR 96.5 hosts the eighth annual celebration of the music of the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia.
