Sarasota running back JaQuan Johnson and his Sailors teammates will participate in the 1st annual Pre-Season Sarasota County High School Football Team Showcase, at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 10., at the Robert Taylor Complex.

FRIDAY, Aug. 5-SATURDAY, Aug. 6

The 15th Annual Sarasota Slam Fishing Tournament will launch from the Marina Plaza at 2 p.m. Anglers can compete in Inshore, Offshore and Junior Angler divisions. Weigh-in, a silent auction and raffles will begin at 1 p.m. Aug. 6 with an after party to follow.

SATURDAY, Aug. 6

It’s time to lace up your sneakers for the New Balance Sarasota 5K Run/Walk at 7 a.m. The free race, which is open to participants of all ages and skill levels, runs through Sarasota across the South Bridge onto Siesta Key and to Crescent Beach Marina and back.

SATURDAY, Aug. 6

Interested in rowing but not quite sure if it’s right for you? The Sarasota Scullers will host a try it out day at 10:30 a.m., at Blackburn Point, for students entering grades 6-12. No prior rowing experience is necessary.

WEDNESDAY, Aug. 10

The community will get its first glimpse of the Sarasota High football team in action during the first Pre-Season Sarasota County High School Football Team Showcase. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the new turf field at the Robert Taylor Complex.
