The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 16-year-old Framingham, Mass., teenager with attempted murder, following what deputies called “a brutal attack” near Turtle Beach Wednesday.
Deputies responded to a 9:08 p.m. call from Melissa Ramgren, who had been vacationing in a condo at Fisherman’s Cove on south Siesta Key, reporting that her 16-year-old son had allegedly stabbed her and his 14-year-old brother. Upon arrival, emergency personnel treated Ramgren, who was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and the 14-year-old victim, who was flown by Bayflite to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
The 16-year-old suspect fled to a house on the other side of Midnight Pass Road on Tree Bay Lane, where deputies eventually took him into custody, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Authorities reported that Ramgren was in serious but stable condition, while the 14-year-old victim was in critical but stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Office has charged the 16-year-old suspect with two counts of second-degree attempted murder.
The Sarasota Observer has chosen not to initially identify the two minors in this article.
