Pop-Up Restaurant Series: Christian Hershman

Each month, Café in the Park invites a local chef to cook up a culinary experience. This month, enjoy food prepared by chef Christian Hershman, former chef at State Street Eating House. Seating is limited.

 

'Why Can't I Be You?'

After winning the 2015 Players New Play Festival, Llewelyn Jones' play, "Why Can't I Be You?" will take the main stage. The story tells the tale of a rock star who wakes up after a night of partying to find his worst nightmare: his stalker in his bedroom. Runs through Aug. 28.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 26

Selby's Secret Garden

10 a.m. at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, 900 S. Palm Ave.

For 12 weeks, the Payne Mansion’s Museum of Botany and the Arts will display rare books and botany prints from the library’s collection, some dating as far back as the 18th century. 

 

Dean Johanesen

Turn back time with Dean Johanesen, as he serenades audiences with his brand of gypsy jazz. Completing the speakeasy vibe by sipping one of L-Bar's craft cocktails.

 

Mike Kach and Jah Movement

Mandeville Beer Garden Movie Night

Mystic Circus

Combining circus, sideshow, burlesque and performance art, Mystic Circus is a touring act that got its start in Coney Island. Now, the eccentric troupe brings its awe-inspiring, risqué performance to Sarasota for a night of darkly humorous, adults-only fun.  

 

'Vaudeville's Dead: Encore'

FST Improv: 'The More You Know'

SUNDAY, AUG. 28

Back to the ’80s Dance Party

LDG Productions presents the return of this dance-throwback to the days of big hair, leg warmers and some of the best dance music ever created. DJ Lady J will keep the dance floor filled — and bring back plenty of memories. Dress in your favorite ’80s outfit.

 

Brassfest

The First Brass of Sarasota presents this concert, featuring various brass ensembles who will perform marches, show tunes and some classical pieces. The large group includes eight trumpets, six French horns, three trombones, euphonium, two tubas and two percussionists. Throughout this all-brass show there will also be solos, quartets and an octet of French horns.

Lip Synch Battle

Florida Craft Beer Summit

Celebrate Florida's booming craft-beer industry at this inaugural summit, dedicated to the Southeast craft-beer professional with the goal of providing networking opportunities for brewers, distributors and retailers. Industry professionals will lead classes. Runs through Sept. 2.
