THURSDAY, Aug. 25

After a victory versus the Gulf Coast Heat to start the season, the Riverview High volleyball team will travel to Lakewood Ranch for a non-district battle between two of the areas premier programs. Freshman will take the court first at 5 p.m. followed by JV at 6 p.m. and Varsity at 7 p.m. 

FRIDAY, Aug. 26 

A pair of crosstown foes will collide on the gridiron when the Riverview High football team travels to Booker for the regular season opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Coming off last week’s preseason victory versus Berkeley Prep, the Sarasota High football team will looking to open the 2016 season on a winning note when the Sailors host Cape Coral. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. 

SATURDAY, Aug. 27

Sarasota will celebrate the grand opening of its new BMX track during a free, family-friendly event, beginning at 10 a.m. The event will feature an opening ceremony, ribbon cutting, BMX demonstrations, activities and more at the track, 1590 N. Tuttle Ave. 

SATURDAY, Aug. 27 

Athletes of all ages will participate in the Special Olympics Florida Stand Up Paddle Championship, at Nathan Benderson Park. The competition will begin with an Opening Ceremony at 7:30 a.m. and will continue until 5 p.m.
