THURSDAY, FEB. 4

The last time the Sarasota and Braden River softball teams met on the diamond, the two teams combined for 27 runs in seven innings, as the Sailors came-from-behind to beat the Pirates 14-13 in Class 7A-District 10 championship thriller. With a new season underway, Sarasota will look to pick up where it left off following last year’s state tournament run when the Sailors travel to Braden River at 6:30 p.m. With the majority of their lineups still intact, this matchup could be another offensive showdown between two former district rivals.

THURSDAY, FEB. 4

The Sarasota Christian girls basketball team is three wins away from reaching the Class 2A Final Four for the third-consecutive season. The Blazers will open regional tournament play at 7 p.m., when they play host to Naples Seacrest Country Day in a Class 2A-Region 3 quarterfinal. The winner will advance to the regional semifinals Feb. 9.

TUESDAY, FEB. 9

Two of the area’s top boys tennis programs will hit the court when Riverview hosts The Out-of-Door Academy at 3:30 p.m. The Rams captured the Class 4A-Region 4 title to earn a berth in last year’s state tournament while the Thunder advanced to the second round of the Class 1A-Region 5 tournament before falling to St. Stephen’s.

TUESDAY, FEB. 9

What better way to start the season than on your home field. The Booker baseball team will host Sarasota Christian in a non-district contest at 7 p.m. With 13 upperclassmen on the roster, the Tornadoes are looking to get off to a fast start against a Blazers team that reached the Class 2A regional finals last season.
