Logan Newton tosses shutout

The Lakewood Ranch softball team earned its first district win of the season Feb. 16.

Lakewood Ranch pitcher Logan Newton hurled the Mustangs to their first district win of the season with a 12-0 victory versus Palmetto Feb. 16. 

Newton allowed three hits while striking out seven in five innings of work. 

Mackenzie Meyers went 3-for-3 with a walk, three RBI and a run scored to lead the way for Lakewood at the plate. Denali Schappacher went 2-for-4 with two runs scored an a RBI. Kinsey Goelz went 1-for-2 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. She also was hit by a pair of pitches. Courtney McLellan went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. 

Lakewood returns to action at 7 p.m. tonight against Riverview.
