Enjoy cocktails and FSU/Asolo Repertory Theatre's production of 'The Liar' by David Ives, running through Jan. 17. This French farce tells the story of Dorante, a charming pathological liar whose tall tales create a web of problems for him and anyone near him.

Independent Jones hosts the second concert in its monthly series, aimed at bolstering the local music scene before the tentative opening of its venue space this fall. Catch the acoustic croonings of local singer/songwriter Kristopher James and the ambient alternative stylings of Seminole-based four-piece, Goodnight Neverland. Support local music in a listening-room environment.

La Hardy

A veteran comic, La Hardy was among the second group of civilians to visit Iraq in 2003 with the Comics On Duty Tour. He's performed on television and in more than 35 countries with the U.S. military. Now catch his act at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre.

 

Sarasota Orchestra: 'Winter Dreams'

Three Russian musical geniuses converge in this unique program, featuring Tchaikovsky's brilliant, melodic  first symphony, Rachmaninoff's technically challenging Piano Concerto No. 3, featuring acclaimed Estonian pianist Mihkel Poll. The concert opens with Overture by Dunayevsky.

29th Anniversary Circus Ring of Fame

The Circus Ring of Fame honors circus members for their contributions to the arts with plaques displayed on St. Armands Circle. This year's inductees include ringmaster and personality Count Nicholas, the Hamid Family of Circus Impresarios, producing clown and historian Kenny Dodd, George Scott, who presented Scott’s Unrideable Mule for more than 25 years and the elephant, Barnum’s Jumbo.

 

MONDAY, JAN. 11

Sarasota Contemporary Dance: 'Exploited'

Sarasota Contemporary Dance, formerly Fuzión Dance Artists, brings sheds awareness on a dark subject through the beauty of contemporary dance. In commemoration of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, the company will bring to light the issue of sex trafficking in Sarasota.

Black Violin

Classically-trained viola and violin players Wil B and Kev Marcus perform a blend of classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B and even bluegrass. The hard-working duo has been at it for more than a decade, averaging 200 shows each year, and has played in 49 states and 36 countries.

MeteorEYES, The Other Ryan Willis and Darren Ankersmitt
