Mote Laboratory and Aquarium named its three new resident otters that will be part of the "Otters & Their Waters" exhibit that opens in February.

Huck and Pippi were named for orphaned literary characters because they were also abandoned and were raised by wildlife rehabilitators. A poll was conducted with a list of possible names on the Mote Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts in December. The third otter was named Jane.

Huck was found in September 2015 in Melbourne, Fla. when He was 5 months old. Jane and Pippi both arrived at Mote from a rehabilitation facility in Conway, S.C.  Jane was 4 to 6 months old and Pippi about 10 days younger when they were rescued in spring 2015.
