Registration upcoming for SLL
Sarasota Little League will hold registration for its Real Baseball Division next month, at its headquarters in Twin Lakes Park.
Registration dates include:
Jan. 9 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
Jan. 13 (6-9 p.m.)
Jan. 16 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
Jan. 20 (6-9 p.m.)
The Real Baseball Division, for ages 12 and 13, is designed for players who want to enhance their skills before moving up to the next level. Using “open base” rules, players will be able to learn game strategies while building confidence.
Registration is $195 and includes hat, shirt, pants and belt.
In addition to its Real Baseball Division, Sarasota Little League also offers three additional divisions for older players, including Freshman (ages 13-14), Junior Varsity (ages 15-16) and Varsity (ages 16-18).

Cal Ripken Sarasota announces registration date
Cal Ripken Sarasota will hold on-site registration for the upcoming spring season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 16, at the Cal Ripken ballfields located at the intersection of Tuttle Avenue and 12th Street.
The league is open to all players, ages 4-12. Registration fees, which include a team shirt, pants and hat, are $180 for T-ball, $220 for Rookie and $240 for Minors and Majors.
Discounts are available for families with more than one child participating. The league also offers scholarships for those in need to help cover registration costs.
Cal Ripken Sarasota also is seeking coaches for all four divisions as well as team and banner sponsorships.

Sharks ranked No. 11 in excellence program
The Sarasota YMCA Sharks swim team was recently ranked No. 11 in USA Swimming’s Club Excellence Program.
The voluntary program is designed to identify and reward up to 200 USA Swimming clubs that have attained a high level of athlete performance.
During the 2014-15 season, the Sharks won their 15th YMCA National Short Course Championship, 24th Florida Junior Olympic Championships and 20th YMCA State Championship. In addition, 15 swimmers competed in junior and senior USA Nationals and two swimmers, Austin Katz and Keenan Dols, competed in the World Junior Championships, in Singapore. Coach Brent Arckey also was selected as a coach for Team USA and 10 swimmers qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials.
Booker girls post win
Following its championship in the Keswick Christian Holiday Tournament Dec. 30, the Booker High girls basketball team returned to the court Jan. 5, posting a 53-46 victory versus Lake Wales.
Aria Bass scored 21 points and added seven rebounds to lead the way for the Lady Tornadoes. Cellexia Foster added 14 points and seven steals.
With the win, Booker improves to 13-5 overall and 6-0 in the district.
