Grocery slated for UTC property in Sarasota

Benderson says it's bringing in a national grocer that's new to the market.

A new high-end grocery store is coming to the University Parkway corridor.

Benderson Development’s Director of Leasing Mark Chait said the company will bring a national grocery chain to the southeast corner of University Parkway and Cattlemen Road. The grocer, whose name has still not been released, is new to the market.

“I can’t divulge the exact location, but it’s in a prominent location within UTC,” Chait said of Benderson's University Town Center projects located on either side of University Parkway. “We’re adding a tremendous mix to the area with these grocers.”

The main grocer should be between 30,000 and 40,000 square feet in size, compared with a typical Publix, about 45,000 square feet, Chait said.

Chait said Benderson also is negotiations for a specialty grocer in the same area — south of University Parkway.
