Gallery Walk and Talk: 'Samurai: The Way of the Warrior'

SARTQ, the newly reformed 15-member artist collective hosts its first all-print exhibition, featuring 24” x 30” works, created using traditional and non-traditional print-making methods. Runs through March 5.

 

Art Glass Weekend Kickoff

This weekend-long celebration of fine glass art, presented by the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, runs through Jan. 31 and kicks off with an opening reception at Alfstad & Contemporary for glass artist Michael Taylor. The event continues with collectors home tours, an auction, tours and talks at the Ringling College of Art and Design, exhibitions at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and Longboat Key Center for the Arts, as well as a pop-up gallery and St. Petersburg bus tour. The stars of goofball comedy align in this evening of spoof hilarity. Rifftrax Live, the brains behind Mystery Science Theater 3000, takes on the cult-classic and one of the cheesiest movies of all time, "The Room." 

 

'Love, Loss and What I Wore'

This play, written by Nora and Delia Ephron, and based on the 1995 book of the same name by Ilene Beckerman, is a series of monologues with a rotating cast of five women, who explore women's relationships, using the female wardrobe as a time capsule of a woman's life. Runs through Feb. 7.

Sarasota Ballet Program Four: 'Balanchine, de Valois and Graziano'

The ballet’s spring session opens with a Balanchine classic and resident choreographer Ricardo Graziano’s original work created for Jacob’s Pillow last year. “Emeralds” by George Balanchine is the influential ballet director’s ode to France. With a score by Gabriel Fauré and designs by Barbara Karinska, Balanchine said that “Emeralds” was, “an evocation of France – the France of elegance, comfort, dress and perfume.” Runs Jan. 29 through Feb. 1.

'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'

Set in Chicago in 1927, this play follows blues legend, Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, as she squares off against a battling quartet of musicians and a tight-fisted white producer. The play, written by August Wilson, explores the 20th century African American experience. Runs through Feb. 20.

'Outside Mullingar'
