Sarasota Sailing Squadron hosted its annual Liberty Day Regatta on Monday, July 4. Five boats competed in the race while guests enjoyed a pirate ship-themed waterslide and live music before the fireworks.
Doug Dearden’s sailboat, “In Tune,” won first place in the Non-Spinnaker division. They finished the 5.18 mile race in 57 minutes and 36 seconds. “Solitude,” captained by David Wilson, came in second place in the same division with a time of one hour, 10 minutes and 28 seconds.
Dearden gave all the credit to the his four other team members including Tom Turner and Thomas Fugina. Dearden has had “In Tune” since 2000. The team regularly heads out on the water on Wednesdays and Fridays.
