TAKE THE CAKE
5:51 a.m. — 600 block of North Washington Boulevard
Theft: An employee at a convenience store reported a man and a woman for stealing a variety of snack cakes from the business. The employee said he wasn’t sure exactly what was taken, but he said they were all the same brand, and he estimated the value of the items between $15 and $20. Based on surveillance video, neither the employee nor officers were able to identify the suspects.
MAKING A SPLASH
8:49 p.m. — 0 block of Bayfront Drive
Assist Other Agency: A captain of a boat reported that a passenger jumped off of the vessel and into the water near Siesta Key. An officer gathered the passenger’s information from the captain after the boat reached the marina. The passenger who jumped off the boat reportedly swam to shore and was not on board when it pulled into the slip.
UNLUCKY BREAK
2:30 a.m. — 3200 block of Osprey Avenue
Property Damage: A man was sleeping in his home when his roommate’s boyfriend came to the door. The man did not let the boyfriend in. The boyfriend said he would be back and told the man to “watch what happens.” About 30 minutes later, the boyfriend returned with two other men. The group began to knock on and kick at the door. The man said he was going to call 911, at which point one of the other men went to the back of the residence and threw a brick through the window.
The man said the two people who accompanied the boyfriend fled the area on bicycles. He said the boyfriend remained at the scene and was yelling that he did not do anything. When an officer spoke to the boyfriend, he claimed he did not know the two men who came with him. He said his girlfriend lived in the home, and he was just trying to get his belongings. The officers observed the man was uncooperative during the investigation, and he eventually said he did not want his belongings anymore and would leave the area.
COLD CASE
6:20 p.m. — 1300 block of Main Street
Suspicion: An officer responded to a report regarding a suspicious suitcase on the street. The officer opened the suitcase, and found that it was filled with stale perishable goods. No other information regarding the suitcase was available. The officer discarded the perishables.
