On June 3 as students were hurried across the stage for the Sarasota High School commencement ceremony, it would be the final that principal Jeff Hradek would preside over.

In an email to staff last week Hradek announced that he would be retiring from his position as of July 29.

“It has been a great journey and my 13 years as principal of Sarasota High have certainly been some of the most rewarding of my career,” Hradek said in an email. “I want to thank all of you for your professionalism, commitment to your students and friendship over this time period.”

His 39-year career in education began in 1977 as a teacher and coach in the Ohio before moving to Florida. Hradek has been at the helm of Sarasota High School since 2003 and previously served as principal and assistant principal for Brookside Middle and Laurel Nokomis Schools.

A replacement for Hradek has yet to be announced for the 2016-17 school year.

“I am confident that the district will find a new principal who will work together with you to continue to make SHS the finest comprehensive high school in the county,” Hradek said. “My best wishes to all of you for a fantastic 2016-17 school year.”
