Mote announces new librarian

Kay Garsnett will serve as the archivist and librarian at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium.

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium has a new librarian.

Kay Garsnett will serve as the new librarian and archivist at the iconic local research facility, according to a news release. Part of her role will include the management of  the library’s print, electronic, archives and special collections. She will also provide instruction, presentations and training materials for the staff. '

In addition to these roles, she will also aid library users with references, document delivery and research services, according to the release.

In the future, she intends to publish an online finding aid, create a digital collection of some of Mote’s Founding Director Dr. Eugenie Clark’s artifacts and documents, as well as process the Clark’s papers, according to the release.

Garsnett previously worked as an archivist at John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Marian University’s School of Liberal Arts and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library at the Alamo. She received her bachelor’s degree in Geography and Secondary Education with a focus on Social Studies from the University of Maryland. She earned her Master’s of Library and Information Studies from the University of Hawaii and her certificate of Advanced Study in Archives and Records Administration from the University of Wisconsin.

Garsnett began her time as a certified archivist in 2012.
