The Starlite Room hosts the opening night of a new weekly event: Throwback Thursdays. This event, which takes place on the second floor, is dedicated to classic hip-hop, soul and other music. 

 

Pokemon Go Tournament

Catch ‘em all at this four-week tournament for the new game, Pokemon Go. Participants will compete to see who can catch the most Pokemon in the Indian Beach area in one hour. The winners for each week receive prizes, and the person with the highest four-week total will receive a mystery grand prize.

‘Peter Pan’

Venice Theatre presents a musical adaptation of the classic play by Sir J.M. Barrie. Brad Wages directs this adventure to Never-Neverland, which runs through July 24.

Unofficial Chive Meet Up

Beach Club Chive On hosts its first unofficial meet up, featuring live music, a bikini contest, swag and a free shirt for the first 100 people through the door. Proceeds raised from attendance will also be going to benefit the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund.

 

‘Sinning Sirens Share a Nightcap’

Renowned actor and comedian Sinbad, known for his long career in standup and his recent performances in “Comedy Bang Bang,” “The Eric Andre Show” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” performs five shows at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre through Sunday.

John D. MacDonald Centennial Birthday Celebration

Celebrate the 100th birthday of renowned Sarasota crime and mystery author, John D. MacDonald. Learn about MacDonald’s career and works, including the “Travis McGee” series and his novel, “The Executioners,” which was adapted to the silver screen twice as “Cape Fear.”

“Grit” kicks off Sarasota Contemporary Dance’s Summer Performance Series. Choreographer Alyson Dolan collaborates with live musicians in an abstract performance to explore survivalism and the essence of the human experience.

 

The Many Faces of Richie Brasil

This art installation at Solid Art Gallery features the works of Sarasota street artist and muralist, Richie Brasil. Work including graffiti, abstract pieces and photorealism will be on display at the Burns Court gallery and streetwear boutique. This marks Brasil’s his first solo exhibition in Sarasota.

 

Bradentucky Bombers

HD at the Opera House: Massenet’s ‘Werther’

See the Royal Opera House in London, under the direction of Benoît Jacquot, put on a production of Massenet’s “Werther” onscreen at the Sarasota Opera House. This tragic opera explores the conflict between duty and desire.

Shamrock and Edible Sarasota team up once again for the annual Summer Chef Jam series. Admission includes three small plates and bottomless pints of Florida craft beers. This week’s featured restaurant is Michael’s On East.
