The Sarasota Music Festival's artist showcase features a series of works by great composers. Hear players from the Sarasota Orchestra perform Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, Satie's "Three Pieces in the Shape of Pears," Mozart's Piano Quintet in E-flat Major and Blanc's Scherzo "Tarentelle" from "Septet." Wine and hors d'oeuvres available starting at 3:30 p.m.

'Come Fly With Me!' The Sammy Cahn Songbook

Fly through an evening of musical performances from the songbook of Sammy Cahn, the most recorded songwriter of the 20th century whose works have been performed by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin Jr., Mario Lanza, and more. 'Cosi'

The Players presents "Cosi," the story of a young theater director who attempts to stage a performance of Mozart's comic opera "Cosi Fan Tutte" with a cast made up entirely of patients from a mental institution. Dan Higgs directs this performance. Runs through June 26.

Brothers Maksim and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, known for their role on ABC's hit show "Dancing with the Stars," bring a new show to the stage on tour. Their show combines a narrative of their life stories with dance performances.

Emmy Award winning actor and comedian Louie Anderson, known for his regular appearances on late-night TV in the ’80s and ’90s, his roles in TV series and films and his position as host of "Family Feud," comes to McCurdy's. Continues June 18.

 

'Contrasts and Parallels'

As part of the Sarasota Music Festival, Sarasota Orchestra student and faculty musicians come together to create a musical performance characterized by contrasts and parallels, including Robert Levin's arrangement of The Beatles' "Penny Lane," Dvorak's String Quintet in G Major and other pieces.

Summer Circus Spectacular 10th Anniversary Celebration

FST Improv creates an improvised motion picture based on a title given by the audience in this unique performance. This performance uses unique staging, special effects and onstage acrobatics to create a romance, adventure, noir or other type of improvised film.

The Sarasota Opera House shows the Paris Opera's performance of "The Damnation of Faust" directed by Alvis Hermanis and conducted by Philippe Jordan as part of its HD At the Opera House series. Berlioz was inspired Goethe's "Faust Part One" and used verses from the book in his opera retelling of its story. 

 

MONDAY, JUNE 20

'The Colored Museum'

The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe performs a staged reading of this play by two-time Tony Award-winning playwright George C. Wolfe. "The Colored Museum" features 11 museum exhibits that are dedicated to exploring of the complexities of black life and providing an opportunity to investigate and empower black identity.

 

TUESDAY, JUNE 21

Summer Chef Jam

Shamrock and Edible Sarasota team up once again for the annual Summer Chef Jam series. $25 gets you three small plates cooked on a charcoal grill from the night's featured local chef, as well as bottomless pints of Florida craft beers. Sample food from nine different restaurants throughout the series. 'Hetty Feather'

The stage adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson's 'Hetty Feather' by Emma Reeves made its U.S. premiere on Asolo Rep's stage. "Hetty Featherrevels in the random nature of life as it follows the story of a 19th-century woman who leaves the English countryside on an adventure that brings her to a traveling circus, as well as the busy streets of London. Runs through June 26.

 

'Relativity'

Florida Studio Theatre presents the NNPN Rolling World Premiere of "Relativity," a play exploring the contradictions between Albert Einstein's private personality and his public persona by examining one theory that attempts to explain the disappearance of Einstein's daughter two years after her birth.
