Feb. 11

First things first
8:11 a.m. — 6400 block of GMD
Traffic Violation: During a traffic stop, an officer noticed a driver didn’t slow down or move over as he passed. When he stopped the second vehicle, the officer discovered the man didn’t have a license and had never had one. He said he was trying to get his green card so he could obtain a license.

Feb. 16

Hearing voices
11:31 p.m. — 6900 block of Longboat Drive South
Suspicious Circumstance: A neighbor reported that she heard voices in the yard of a nearby home that is empty and for sale. Police determined that a vehicle parked there belonged to the property manager.

Feb. 17

Board hoarder
11:09 a.m. — 500 Block of Ranger Lane 
Property Damage: A woman reported that someone had pulled several boards off the frame of a dock where she was staying at a family member’s property. She said there was a similar incident in November.

Shopping spree
7:45 a.m. — 500 Block of Ranger Lane
Fraud/Identity Theft: A man reported that his wife, whom he’s in the process of divorcing, tried to pay more than $4,320 worth of bills from his bank account. The largest bill was a $2,900 payment to Saks Fifth Avenue.

Feb. 17

Dent in hatch
8:15 p.m. — 2000 Block of Harbourside Drive
Property Damage: A man reported his car had been dented while it sat in a parking spot.

Lost at sea
1:10 p.m. — Off the key
Boat: An officer reported to Sarasota County Environmental Services that two idle speed buoys had broken free. A regulatory sign was also missing from its piling just east of the MarineMax fuel dock.

 

Feb. 18

Allowed on the beach
1:25 p.m. — 2400 Block of GMD
Dog on the Beach: An officer responded to a report of a dog on the beach. The dog turned out the be a service animal and is allowed on the beach.

Cashing out
10:55 a.m. — 500 Block of Ranger Lane
Fraud/Identity Theft: A man reported that his wife, from whom he's separated, signed his name on a check she took from his desk at work, worth $1,584, and cashed it. The check was made out only to him.

Feb. 19

Roof rampage
10:13 a.m. — 5400 Block of GMD
Vandalism: A man reported vandals cut a 13-inch slit in the driver’s side roof of his Mercedes convertible just above the door. The owner doesn’t know of anyone who might have issues with him.

Feb. 20

Taken with the trash?
9:34 a.m. — 500 block of Narvaez Drive
Property lost or missing: A man called to report his recycling bin was missing, and he needed a police report to obtain a replacement from Waste Management.

Feb. 22

Parking and fighting
12:40 p.m. — 3000 block of GMD
Disturbance: An condominium employee asked a resident to move his car from an unauthorized space. He began yelling at the employee, but he moved his car. 

Feb. 22

Keep it down
7:12 a.m. — 700 block of Old Compass Road
Disturbance: Police reminded a man using power tools in his home that town ordinances prohibit construction noise before 8 a.m.

Feb. 23

Mysterious fog
1:47 a.m. — 1200 block of GMD
Fire/Structure: Security personnel at a condominium called the fire department because he thought he saw a fog in the front lobby. Firefighters checked the building but found nothing.
