1 — Cardinal Mooney junior forward Alex Turner was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 2A Player of the Year. 

2 — Twelve-year-old Pip Smalley hit five home runs to win the Home Run Derby during Sarasota Little League’s Opening Day Feb. 27. 

3 — Sophomore Christian Diaz tossed a perfect game to lead the Cardinal Mooney JV baseball team to an 8-0 victory against DeSoto County Feb. 23. 

4 — Senior Steven Mercadante won the 182-pound weight class at the Class 3A-Region 2 tournament Feb. 26 and Feb. 27, at Osceola High, to advance to the state tournament March 4 and March 5, in Kissimmee. 

5 — Riverview senior Warran Grajalez posted victories in the 1600-and 3200-meter runs at the Riverview Ram Invitational Feb. 26.
