Sarasota alumna Camille Giardina, now at Florida Southern, was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year.

1 — Florida Southern’s Camille Giardina, a 2015 graduate of Sarasota High, was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year.

2 — Tyler Mattes went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and five RBI to lead the Cardinal Mooney baseball team to an 11-0 district victory versus Gateway Charter March 1.

3 — Sarasota senior Nick Long went 3-for-3 with a RBI, as the Sailors edged past Palmetto 2-1 in district action March 1.

4 — Sarasota wrestlers Michael Bush (106 pounds) and Steven Mercadante (182 pounds) both posted fifth-place finishes at the Class 3A state tournament March 4 and March 5.

5 — Taylor Filipouski and Zayda Fredericks scored three goals apiece to propel the Riverview girls lacrosse team to a 9-8 victory versus Fort Myers Riverdale March 5.
