Harvey Milk Announces Lineup

Harvey Milk Festival, an annual arts and music festival founded in 2010 to celebrate the life of Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay politicians, announced its lineup for this year’s event, which takes place from May 12 to May 14.

This year’s headlining music acts are Avan Lava, a dance-pop quintet from New York, known for its high-energy shows, confetti cannons and crowd surfing, and PWR BTTM, a queer punk duo also from New York.

Banquet on the Block

This Friday, Lemon Avenue will turn into one giant dining room for Florida Winefest & Auction’s Banquet on the Block party. The street will close down to make way for an oversized dining table, where guests will enjoy a selection of wines and multiple courses of local seafood, meat and produce from local chefs. Banquet on the Block takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Lemon Ave. $200. Call 952-1109. Florida Winefest & Auction continues through March 20.

All Mashed Up

What better honor could be bestowed upon a piece of donated art than for it to be repurposed and given new life? As part of the third annual MASHterpieces exhibition, Goodwill Manasota and Art Center Sarasota will team up with 30 local artists, each tasked with putting their own creative touch on a piece of donated art. The final works will be on display from March 17 through April 23, at Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail. Call 365-2032. Don’t miss the opening reception at 5 p.m. April 7, where guests can check out the art and belly up to the mashed-potato bar — what else?
