MARCH 15

After hours
5:23 p.m. — 5000 block of GMD
Noise: An officer responded to a complaint about noise and found a subcontractor in violation of the town’s noise ordinance, which limits construction work to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The subcontractor received a warning.

No drugs here

10:41 p.m. — 6900 block of Poinsetta Avenue
Disturbance: A woman called police to ask them to check her residence for an individual staying there with her grandson, whom she had forbidden to be there. Neighbors told the woman that her grandson’s guest was selling drugs on the property. While officers were speaking with neighbors at the property, the individual and grandson arrived to pick up some property and said they would not return. The officer found no evidence of drugs or paraphernalia.

12:45 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and North Shore Road
Assault: A man working for a homeowner said he was assaulted while they were driving because the employer was angry after the employee left for a break and didn’t come back soon enough. The officer contacted the employer, who said the employee took his car without permission, and when he was driving the employee home, he became agitated and started thrashing around the vehicle. The employer said he didn’t hit anyone, but held the employee to prevent injury.

DIRTY BUSINESS
5:16 p.m. — 800 block of Tarawitt Drive
Property Damage: A man complained that a dump truck had driven over his driveway, mistakenly dumping dirt on his property for a neighbor’s project. The truck cracked his driveway in several places. The officer contacted the driver and started a case.

MARCH 18

CRASH COURSE
2:29 p.m. — 1700 block of GMD
Agency Assist: An officer stopped a vehicle that was suspected of being involved in an accident on St. Armands Circle and driving erratically. The driver said a woman hit his van on the Circle but didn’t stop, so he kept driving north. Sarasota Police contacted the woman driving the other vehicle, but she refused to file a report and said she would contact SPD if she decided to file one. The officers took witness information and cleared the scene.

TONE IT DOWN
11:17 p.m. — 700 block of Norton Street
Noise: An officer asked a homeowner to turn her music down after responding to a complaint and hearing music at the rear of the home.

MARCH 20

LOST AND FOUND
4:33 p.m. — 3800 block of GMD
Property found: An Ohio drivers license, found on the beach, was placed in the evidence locker because there was no way to contact the owner.

CALL OF THE WILD
2:57 a.m. — 600 block of Broadway
Suspicious circumstance: Police responded to a complaint of a possible prowler. Two people, including the complainant, were in her bedroom talking and heard a scratching noise and smelled what they thought was cigarette smoke. The officers searched the area and saw a raccoon in the area, and noticed trash cans just outside the bedroom window. They also smelled wood burning from a nearby fire.

SMELL OF SUSPICION
1:36 p.m. — 3900 block of GMD
Traffic: An officer stopped a minivan with a cracked windshield and a defective brake light. After smelling marijuana and asking the driver if there was any in the vehicle, he asked if he could search it. The driver refused consent, but the officer searched the car and found approximately 2 grams of marijuana and two marijuana cigarettes. The driver received a noticed to appear in court and a warning about the vehicle-related violations.

COMMITTING TREE-SON
11:11 a.m. — Intersection of Magnolia Road and Pine Street
Quarrel: A man who had just bought a parcel and was cleaning up the property was accosted by his neighbor, who yelled about trees the complainant was cutting down on his own property. The confrontation did not become physical. There was no further incident.

IT WAS ONLY THE WIND
7:53 a.m. — 5800 block of GMD
Property Damage: Officers responded to a complaint of a possible break-in and found a door torn off the hinges of a tavern at the location. They determined that the wind had torn the door off its hinges. They contacted the key holder.

MARCH 22

SUSPICIOUS FOLLOWER
6:19 p.m. — 5500 block of GMD
Suspicious Circumstance: A woman complained that as she left a park, a white SUV driver began following her until she arrived at her condominium. When she drove through the entrance gate, the driver, turned around, she said.

SECURITY CHECK
2:58 p.m. — 400 block of L'Ambiance Drive
Disturbance: A man demanded entry into L'Ambiance, claiming to be in charge of security. The manager advised the officer she’d hired a private security company, but there would have been no reason for its employees to be there at the time of the incident. 

MARCH 23

STAY CLEAR
1:27 p.m. — 100 block of Sands Point Road
Gas Leak: An officer helped reroute traffic around Sands Point Road when an irrigation worker severed a gas line, causing a leak.
