Making mom feel special

Students at Bay Haven School of Basics Plus and St. Boniface Preschool sit down and talk about their plans for Mother's Day.

What is something unique about your mom? “Well, I’m really lucky to have a mom like her, and she’s really sweet because she’s really silly when we get home from school and she picks us up. She sings funny songs, and sometimes she makes the wobble while going like this (shakes steering wheel) and it’s really funny.”

What are you going to do for her for Mother’s Day? “I got recycled stuff and made her a teapot and then made her a purse out of recycled stuff.”

Why do you appreciate your mom? “She usually cooks most of the food, but my dad is special, too, because he does everything on the grill. My mom usually plays outside with me and plays board games with me. Like Connect the Dots stuff and memory games and Monopoly.”

What are you going to do for her for Mother’s Day? “I already got a card for her. I made a card for her. I’m going to get her a hat, some shoes and a robe.”

What makes your mom special? “What makes my mom special is that she takes care of four kids at once, and it’s really amazing that she gets all this stuff done. It’s really cool. She makes dinner at exactly the right time, and she makes my favorite shepherd’s pie. ”

What is something you enjoy doing with your mom? “When the other ones are taking naps, we sometimes watch movies and play games.”

What makes your mom special? “She cares for me. She loves me. She has a great- grandmother. I play games with her like on the Wii, Star Wars.”

What makes your mom special? She gives us treats after dinner. Like we got a lot of treats from Easter. We still have, like, 100 left.”

What’s something you like to do with your mom? “A long time ago we went to a place called Adventure Island, and I went there with my sister, Claire. There’s lots of slides there, waterslides. It was so fun.” What are you going to do for her for Mother’s Day? “I found a pair of new gloves, like, on the side yard of our house. They had flowers on them. They weren’t dirty, but they were in our yard, and then I gave those to her last night.”

What makes your mom special? “Well, something unique that she does is that she always sings songs about me and my sister. Like ‘I love you guys, you’re the best.’ Things like that. It makes me feel special because most moms don’t do that.”

What is something fun your mom does? “She takes the turkey legs and dances around with them on Thanksgiving. She goes ‘the dancing, dancing bird.’”

What makes your mom special? “She is great at doing a lot of stuff on the computer. She lets me have my own tablet. She also gave me some more money to get my pet fish, because I didn’t have enough.”
