1. THURSDAY, May 12-SATURDAY, May 14 

Area anglers will look to reel in the largest catch of the day during the 6th Annual Gulf Coast Open, at Marina Jack. The three-day event, includes two fishing tournaments: the kingfish jackpot and a single engine tournament. At least 50 teams and more than 500 spectators are expected. 

2. SATURDAY, May 14

Old School will meet New School when former area high school, college and professional football players hit the gridiron for GLC Athletics Charity Flag Football Game. Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. with kickoff slated for 5 p.m., at Sarasota High. 

3. FRIDAY, May 13-SUNDAY, May 15

Local Age Group Swimmers will dive into the start of the long course season during the Kent B. Holdren Memorial Swim Meet, at the Selby Aquatic Center, in Sarasota. Racing begins at 5 p.m. May 13 and continues throughout the weekend. 

4. SATURDAY, May 14-SUNDAY, May 15

National championship qualification will be on the line when 26 clubs from across the Southeast converge on Nathan Benderson Park for the 4th USRowing Southeast Youth Championships. Racing begins at 8 a.m. with the region’s winning crews earning a berth in the USRowing Youth National Championships June 10 through June 12.
